Brin and Hawkeye had been flying southwest for about six days and had camped for the night, when the Oakenling's sharp ears detected the unmistakable sounds of someone furtively approaching. "What now?" the Witch said in a low yet carrying voice. "You might as well show yourself. I'm losing patience with being stalked." However, the person who emerged from the concealment of the trees was the last thing on earth that either she or Hawkeye had expected: an Alu Sage, calmly leading a Pegasus.
