Right then a stone zings through the air and smacks Jade River in the back of the head, exactly in the center of his previous wound. The man's sword slides to the sand, while he crumples like a doll. Shooting Star looks up to see a freed Amen bashfully slip a slingshot behind his back, while Silver Fox is already hurrying to her to assess the damage. "I was winning," she tells him, half-vexed and half-amused as he examines her shoulder and pronounces the long cut minor, thanks again to her luck.

Estel can sense the desperation in her opponent's moves, now, although perhaps he doesn't realize how clearly he's telegraphing his distress. A reckless Jade River is just as dangerous as he was when his swordplay was more planned and coordinated, though, so Shooting Star is taking no unnecessary chances herself. She doesn't have to; she's winning. The former pirate begins to think, however, that he's not going to surrender short of death. Maybe he can't conceive of the possibility of defeat.

Soon she becomes aware that this mortal body that she's inhabiting is wearying. It shouldn't be perceptible to her enemy yet, but Jade Black Rose can feel the subtle weaknesses. That blasted head injury is drawing energy, and the late queen has stretched his magic beyond its capacity with the sleep and confusion spells. She concentrates harder, attempting to channel more of her own vital force into her relative and tool, Jade River, and thus finish this tiresome battle as swiftly as possible.

Admittedly, it was her puppet's blood which Shooting Star drew, and the wound is fortunately not incapacitating, yet Jade Black Rose felt pain! No more offers of a quick death for her, certainly. Another tinge of memory flits through the ghost's incorporeal mind, of another time when she vowed revenge, however the late queen manages to blot it from her consciousness. The fight is fiercer now, although not as rapid, all cold rage.
