It is unsurprising, therefore, that White Rose lost coordination and actually fell." Sable strokes her charge's hair, once only. "There is nothing to be ashamed of in that," she tells the northern girl. "No," Maia agrees. "My dreams were just as horrible. Are you in much pain?" "No, Miss has healed it some already."

The pair from the Firebrand are on their guard, though, lest the second tracks be those of Jade River, stalking one of the fleeing teens. Therefore, both Maia and Shooting Star are greatly relieved when they round a small promontory and find White Rose curled up next to the Governess, still sniffing a little and, of all things, leaning a bit against Miss's side. Sable looks somewhat abashed. "You know about the nightmares, of course," she says to the ship's captain. "And the confusion spell?"
