Not expecting to actually find anyone on the second island, the group from the Firebrand have brought with them no hatchets and very little rope. Neither Silver Fox nor Shooting Star will consent to dulling their swords chopping wood with them, so driftwood will have to suffice. Happily, Jade River has already collected a considerable amount of it. As for binding it together, the man proves himself useful again, by creating large quantities of thick, coarse webbing which serves the purpose.

This has brought up another minor difficulty, though. It goes without saying that they must bring Jade River back to the Firebrand. They couldn't just abandon him on the islet, even if were both a villain and a threat; that would be merciless and irresponsible. However, it is Maia's opinion, and no one disagrees with her, that Jade River should not be swimming if he's still experiencing unpredictable blackouts. Therefore, since the longboat truly is damaged, they must make a raft for him.
