It has always been his ambition, ever since he learned her name, to marry the proud blue djinn woman. And, he acknowledges to himself, long before that, since it took centuries for her to trust him with her private name, beyond just "Ifrit". Still, if he must give up, or at least delay, those dreams in order to see her whole again, there is no question as to Ji's decision. This foolishness about the seaborn not wedding the mainland fey has strained their relationship enough. He must fix it.

If only they were not having to fight the wind for every inch of forward progress on this voyage, he could be quite pleased with sailing the ocean. There is no danger of losing their way; the divining rod, which looks so much like a magic wand, but acts more like a compass, takes care of that, always pointing to his birthplace. Then, too, he cannot be certain that he will find a facet of Ifrit when he reaches his destination. What if his hunch is mistaken? Yet what other evidence exists?
