The children are delighted with Ifrit's new look, especially her strange shortness, and beg the adults to contact Summer Wind and Syura immediately to see if the dyed skin and sapphire eyes will fool them. "Don't be ridiculous. I made your aunt Summer that color before any of you were born. A little change of hue won't do more than surprise her," Jonas tells them, enticing them all away to listen to tales they've heard before, but about which he always seems to let slip some novel detail.

Suddenly everyone but Blue Turtle Dreaming blinks and stares. To their eyes, Ifrit is now rapidly becoming the color of coffee, and the red dot appears at her normal mouth height. "War Paint," says the shaman, "can also be Bluff Paint sometimes." Lastly, something must be done about the long, pointed ears. Smoke Cat Watching flips a layer of fine gauze over the fey's head. "This should cause anything sticking up above the level of your hair to effectively disappear; it's a modified hole."

"And this will turn me brown?" asks the blue woman dubiously. "The orange pigments should balance out your natural cyan color," Blue Turtle reassures her while Jonas paints. When he is done, Smoke Cat takes the fey female aside and does some very fast talking, but when they return, Ifrit is wearing the genie gem and her eyes have turned the shade of the stone. Next it is the other clan's shaman's turn; he coats Ifrit's lips in heavily enchanted red salve and dots her forehead once with it.
