With that, Silver Dagger swirls out of the room and disappears somewhere down the street. Jonas has picked up the wand, "lost" this time rather than "thrown away", and is telling Summer Wind the details she missed. Pretty Girl is now sobbing with joy and clinging like a limpet to Smoke Cat's legs. Seeing Kanu with nothing to do, the shaman turns the courtesan over to the guardsman for the attempted kidnapping of Summer Wind. "A jail cell is the safest place for her now," says the shaman.

Unable to either dispose of the courtesan completely or take her with him for interrogation, Mourning Cloak does the next best thing. He feints throwing lightning at Kanu to distract Smoke Cat, and leaning forward, touches Pretty Girl on the forehead with his bloody palm. "Forget!" he commands her, activating a previously cast hypnosis-based spell that will wipe clean the last three years of her memory. She will have no idea why she is here or who Mourning Cloak is, much less what he wants.
