Keys wears gloves to keep from touching things, and especially people, that would be emotionally distracting at best, and downright distressing at worst, for her. When she's working, of course, then she takes them off, but she doesn't want her "downtime" hours flooded with other people's thoughts and sensations any more than she can avoid. Until now she has been reluctant to work with Sherlock Holmes, due to his intense and penetrating aura, but Mycroft has insisted that they at least try.

As it was soon to be discovered, neither of their opinions were likely to matter. It was going to be what Keys saw, the greatest and most secret psychic talent in England, that would hopefully tell them how Moriarty had apparently cheated death. Sherlock, of course, was initially skeptical. Very skeptical. But when you have eliminated everything else, the only remaining possibility is the truth; the girl undoubtedly did have a gift.
