| Princess Mary, christened Princess Victoria Alexandra Alice Mary, was born to King George V of England and Queen Mary of Teck on the 25th April 1897. Mary was the only daughter with 5 brothers, Prince David (later King Edward VIII), Prince Albert (Late King George VI), Prince Henry, Prince George and Prince John, sadly John died aged 13 from complications with epilepsy. As a young woman Mary was dedicated to charity work, in WW1 she visited hospital with her mother and became involved with various projects, one such project was the Princess Mary Christmas Gift fund, where £100,000 worth of gifts were sent out to British soldiers and sailors. In 1922 Mary married George Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood and together they had two sons, George and Gerald. After her husband's death in 1947 Mary continued to carry out official duties and lived with her elder song in Harewood house and in 1953 she attended the coronation of her niece, Queen Elizabeth II.
