Johanna Louise Spyri (née Heusser) (June 1827 – July 1901) was a Swiss author of novels, especially children's stories, and is best known for her book Heidi, which she wrote over the course of four weeks. Born in the rural area of Hirzel, Switzerland, as a child she spent several summers in the area around Chur in Graubünden, the setting she later would use in her novels. A popular author, she published more than fifty works of fiction over the course of her career. |
