Yes, you're right, in the Middle Ages there were very young popes. Benedict IX was probably the youngest and somewhere between 11 to 18 years old. Since it was all about political power ^^

Many thanks, launing!! The only part I find really difficult to believe is that she would be chosen as Pope when she was still young enough to have children. But times were different, then. *shrug*

Absolutely amazing!!! I really like her 'Pope hat' and the slightly anxious expression on her face. Also the cross is a great touch and her all white robes are very fitting. I really like the detailed backstory too, awesome explanation. Fabulous job! Oh and have you read the (fictional) book by Donna Woolfolk Cross about Pope Joan? It's an intriguing read, worth checking out. <3

Her sex was revealed when she gave birth during a procession, and she died shortly after, either through murder or natural causes. The accounts state that later church processions avoided this spot, and that the Vatican removed the female pope from its official lists and crafted a ritual to ensure that future popes were male. At least three contemporary authors have concluded that she did exist, although the details are inaccurate. These works are discounted as "credulous" by the mainstream.
