Inspired by @The_Nameless. A Chinese folktale based on Buddhism characters.
Once upon a time, Udumbara bloomed with her little blossoms of the purest white. A young man catered to the flower, he watered her, weeded her, fertilized her. He cared for her with all his heart and she bloomed for him, her blossoms never fade with the changing of seasons. Blooming along with her white flowers was a deep affection between the spirit of Udumbara and the young man. Alas such love between a spirit and a man was forbidden by the Celestial law. They were forced to separate. The young man was sent away to the Vulture Peak as a disciple of the Buddha. The flower spirit was only allowed to bloom once in a year, for a blink of a second. Thousands of years had passed, the young man had achieved enlightenment in Buddhism, he was now Skanda Bodhisattva, a guardian of the Buddhism, he had forgotten everything in his mortal life. But the spirit of Udumbara can never forget him...cont. |
