| Rasputin was a mystical healer and a trusted friend of the last tsar of Russia in the 19./20th century. Being the son of peasants in a small village, he was regarded as an outsider, but endowed with mysterious gifts. In adolescense he was a brawler and a libertine. In 1887, Rasputin married Praskovia Fyodorovna Dubrovina with which he had 3 children (3 other kids died young). After several months in a monastery he became a convert. After wandering around for years, he arrived in 1904 in St.Petersburg. A few years later he was intruduced to the tsarina and got her trust with saving her son from death. The ruling class was first fascinated from Rasputin, but later they turned against him. In June 1914, he was assaulted and stabbed in the stomach, but he survived this and several other attacks. He was hated for his influence over the tsar family as well as over the politics of Russia. At the 30th of December 1916, Prince Yusupov and some others prepared the next assassination. (cont.) |
