After her second escape attempt, she was brought to Germany for "safe keeping," and kept imprisoned, chained at hands and feet for ten months. In the end she was brought to Dachau, brutally beaten, and shot in the back of the head. She died at age 30.

She was recruited by the Special Operations Executive to train as a secret agent, since she was fluent in French and was a trained wireless operator. She was sent undercover into France with nothing but a fake passport, a clutch of francs, and a pistol. Her spy network fell apart around her, but still she stayed in France for three months until she was betrayed. In 1943, she was arrested. Her interrogation lasted an entire month, but she gave no information away, not even her real name.

She studied child psychology and music at Sorbonne, and began writing childrenâs books and poetry. She was frequently published in literary magazines, and at age 25 her book Twenty Jakata Tales was published. At the outbreak of World War II, the family fled to England. Although she was Sufi and therefore a pacifist, Noor and her brother thought it would be unconscionable to stand by during the war, so she enlisted in the air force.
