(Dress inspired by this one.) Mer-human unions are not unheard of, and although they're fairly uncommon, they're far less unusual among Caribbean and other shallow-dwelling mermaids than among deep-sea mermaids like Ariel. In fact, they're just frequent enough to have their own regulations: 1) All mer-marriage ceremonies are to take place privately; only immediate family may be invited, & the ceremony must be held in a remote, uninhabited location. 2) The human, in committing to the union, agrees to transfer their residence from land to sea & break all non-family ties, only occasionally returning to land to visit family. 3.) If the human breaks this vow, they will be banished from the mer-community & separated from their spouse. This is for the protection of both the human and mer-communities, preventing magic from getting in the wrong hands.

I'm so loving this Princess Iria series of dolls!! It makes me miss the group of Caribbean and Central American lab tech students that I functioned as a special teaching assistant for during about a year and a half period. Of course, they didn't wear traditional clothing, but they were all quite fashion conscious, and all so lively and fun to be around!
