| For Caribbean mermaids, the transition to a human disguise is less drastic and painful than it is for deep-sea mermaids like Ariel, and is instead more fluid and seamless, like that of Syrena in Pirates of the Caribbean. However, while their proximity to the surface allows for an easier transition, even Caribbean mermaids require magic to become human. The legs are only temporary, though they can be re-acquired infinitely, so long as they have enough potion. And given magic is the lifeblood of Caribbean mermaids, potion is never in short supply for Iria or the Caribbean mer-royals. When human, they still disguise themselves as best as possible to avoid being taken advantage of or captured by greedy humans who crave their magic. They are drawn to humility, selflessness, and integrity like a magnet, and these are the humans they generally do business with--though they will sometimes cautiously help others who are in dire need, as well. |
