LOVE that staff. It's so original. I haven't seen anyone else do one like that. It's amazing. As for the 'dark' crowns, it's probably because she has a slightly creepy air about her. Her eyes glow/don't have pupils, which is often a sign of evilness, she has icicles, which would mean cold, sharp, and possibly cruel, and her smile is wide. Really really wide. Matched with the eyes, crown, and collar/necklace thing, she gives of a mild sinister air.

Maybe you got the dark crown because of her eyes? Just a guess. I really like her staff too and her collar. Great details.
