"I can't wait until you tell me what you did to her!" The Bubble Magician held out a hand with a scattering of gold and silver coins on it, like offering your fingers for a wild thing to smell, before you trap it. Sharp was beyond help. He took the bait. "I don't believe she was an Iretmose," he hedged, "but she was odd."

At this point, most normal people would give up, and figure they'd lost enough for one evening. Sharp wasn't most people, and certainly wasn't normal. It honestly didn't occur to him that he was being scammed. Having run out of the money he'd gained from staking information, essentially selling it in order to stay at the table, the desperate Dorfyn stuck with this successful ploy. "Let's raise the stakes," he said tightly. "There must be something else of use I know or can find out for you two."
