Mark silently counted to thirty while Draensil apparently considered this. "Very well," she said finally to Marea. "I will follow your lead." There was another heavy pause, but shorter this time. "Make wise choices," added the dark Witch. "Be courteous... to ALL the team members," Marea told her, "and we won't have a problem." For only the second time, Draensil glanced at Mark. "Congratulations," she remarked, "your... girlfriend... is both a strong Witch and a fighter. I admire that."

The dark Witch's eyes flashed dangerously for a moment. There was a note of genuine worry in her voice, though, when she demanded, "You're not one of Vedika's coven. You aren't even a Nemesis Sister. You're only here for the Oakenling boy. Why should you be in command?" "I'm in command because it was the express decision of both Hawkeye, Tiger's cousin, and Isthare, your coven leader. I would be here for Vedika, anyway, but Isthare is counting on me to do my best. So nothing less will do."

"Draensil, I understand that you're not accustomed to being subordinate to a Candeliana Sister, and I appreciate your desire to find Vedika as quickly as possible. I do. But you WILL wait here until the other two of us arrive. You will NOT go off on your own, putting yourself, and for all you know, Vedika and Tiger, or us, at risk. And that's how it's going to be." This time it was Marea's voice that was brisk and businesslike, and it held an undercurrent of authority. Mark mentally cheered.

"I can imagine quite a lot of things two strong Witches should be afraid of... quite a lot, meaning more than two, of things being among them. However, that's beside the point. The point is that we will wait for Karako the Kitsune and Robin the Bubble Magician because I decided that's the best course of action," Marea said calmly and steadily. "Well, I'm not hanging around here twiddling my thumbs," and the Nemesis Sister rolled her eyes. "I'll see you when you get up the nerve to follow me."
