"Baby, you're so good at this it's scary. I believe you," Mark said. "But before we report back that someone was after Vedika and Tiger, let's be sure. What do you need as proof?" "If they disappeared, especially if there was a struggle of any kind, that would be iron clad evidence. However, I'd be satisfied if I could pick up an ill-wishing, or a cloaking spell on the stalkers, or really anything that doesn't belong," Marea told him. "I could open to that, but I'd be totally vulnerable."

"Echo?" he repeated, not bothering to dodge the pun. Marea didn't seem to object. "Someone else has done this, hunted for the two of them like this, before me," she said. "I don't like it," Marea added, knowing Mark wouldn't tease her this time for stating the obvious. "Me either. Can you get any sense of who it was following them?" Mark asked. "No, I'm not even sure if it was Tiger, or Vedika, or both who was being... well... stalked." She took his hand instinctively. "Maybe I'm wrong..."

"Hey," he said idly one day as they were standing in front of the Little Mermaid statue in the harbor, "I didn't know Vedika was Danish. No wonder she took Tiger just about everywhere in Copenhagen." "Yeah," Marea responded, slightly distracted. "You know, Mark... I should scry again. There's something... weird..." "What kind of weird?" he asked, instantly serious and on the alert. "I'll tell you in a few moments." After consulting her crystals, the Witch continued, "I'm getting an echo."

Together, the duo created a unique energy, the young Witch discovered, that she was able to detect. They had indeed come through the train station, and Marea believed she could track them further. It was a somewhat tedious chore, following Tiger and Vedika's footsteps all over Copenhagen, because she couldn't just drop the trail and pick it up again where they'd been days later; it had to be retraced continuously. Nevertheless, Mark was patient, and it was kind of fun to play tourist a while.

Marea decided to press her luck and go straight on to Copenhagen, to try scrying from the main train depot. Mark, as a street performer, proved himself useful by providing a distraction that kept people from looking her way too intently. She scried first for Vedika, as the more noticeable of the two, and when that focus proved unfruitful, shifted her aim to Tiger. Yet all she saw was a blur of many, many feet going over the same area. Not to be discouraged, Marea searched for the pair as a unit.
