| Concluding my #Mulan 2 retelling: When the travelers finally reached the camp of the Khan, Rouran explained the change of plans to his father, who, having barely heard of Mulan, was expecting a trio of princesses, and gained his approval. The Mongol prince's marriage to Yu Lien wasn't elaborate by Chinese standards, but it was very colorful according to the nomadic traditions. Mysteriously, the new bride insisted on carrying a black and white kitten throughout, but this peculiarity was tolerated fondly by most of the spectators, who were pleased by the love match. Kala Nag, of course was furious, and by a mixture of bribery and threats, coerced a crony into poisoning the meat sent to Mulan and Yu Lien's tent before the ceremony. Perhaps this was merely intended to kill the small cat, since the dosage was low for a human, or maybe it was meant just to feign an accidental illness. Who could tell? Either way, they were watching for such a move, and the ploy was unsuccessful. (cont.) |
