Many thanks, Lexia!! I'm very fond of Yu Lien also. She's honest about her own opinion, and has taught Mulan everything she can; after that, she trusts Mulan to make up her own mind. In part, that's because she doesn't feel it's her place to make Mulan's decisions for her, as the sword's guardian spirit, and in part it's just being a good friend.

I really love the character Yu Lien as I feel in the original film Mulan never had much a female role model, she had her mum and grand mother, but they had expectations of her. While Yu Lien doesn't try to point Mulan in any particular path, but supports Mulan which ever path she chooses! Yet again another emotional scene you've captured and I'm really loving the bright greens in these new Mulan designs!

"If I go, will you promise to travel by my side like this, pretending to be a human Imperial Court Lady in my service, even as I will be pretending to be a real Imperial Princess? Yu Lien, I know it's a lot to ask, but you'll be my only friend, and I don't want to hide your existence and talk to my sword."

The sword spirit was, after millennia, the best tactician in the world, and the only expert on what the Jade Lotus could, and could not, accomplish. "We can defend the Empire, yes."

Yu Lien held her closer. "I don't support this wedding, Mulan. I think there's more to the Mongol trade agreement than meets the eye, and that you shouldn't be contemplating taking the Sword of the Heroine out of China. What if the Mongols are satisfied, but the folk who live on that large island to the east... do you call it Nippon in this era?... decide to invade?" Mulan looked stricken. "Still, if you choose this marriage, I, and the Jade Lotus will accompany you. This is our destiny."

Mulan's tears were quiet, hot, and left her eyes red and puffy. She wasn't used to crying. "I'll be a stranger, surrounded by people I don't know, in a harsh foreign land, with unfamiliar customs and a language I don't speak." Fa Mulan's voice broke as she choked down a sob. "Yet... what else can I do?"
