Continuing my #Mulan tale for @DysMalLexia's contest: Eventually it had to happen, of course. Li Shang caught up with the tiger just barely within the hills above the camp, since the big cat had been venturing closer and closer to Mulan, making the army recruits very nervous, assuming his lack of fear meant that Shi-Yang was a man-eater. Captain Shang attacked on sight, throwing his spear without his characteristic careful aim due to his frenzied need to kill the animal. It sliced a foreleg, not seriously, but painfully. In an instant the tiger leapt at Li Shang to retaliate and fight back. Much as his behavior and attitude towards Mulan indicated affection and tameness, and the lack of concern shown for other humans constituted supreme indifference, Shi-Yang loathed the Captain. To be fair, he had good reason. Not only was the man hunting him, but his treatment of Mulan was increasingly bad, and the beast's sensitive nose could pick up her distress in the wind. (cont) |
