"I wasn't that much older than she is when I dislocated your shoulder. What if I'd broken your neck?" Liana/Jade counters, and it's strangely as if we're having a real argument. "Psychopaths start young, you know." "Fine," I tell her, "but this is just a dream," I continue, becoming aware of that fact as I speak, "and I'm waking up now." "Don't turn your back on me," she shrieks into the darkness after me. "Don't turn your back on anyone!" But it's too late; I'm already awakening myself.

"What's wrong? Don't you want me now that I'm a killer? I could have killed you back on that playground, you know," Jade/Liana chants at me. The horrible thing is that I still do. She's... sexy... now, in a hooded cobra kind of way, and she fascinates me as much as ever, perhaps more. "Be careful what you wish for. We're all killers, murderers, assassins. Every one of us. And we'll get you sooner or later." This is a little much, even for a nightmare. "Even the kid?" I ask. "She's 7!"

No, this time what raises the hair on the back of my neck is her voice, her 15 year old voice, coming from the "saw the lady in half" box. "You can't have her back, you know," she sing-songs, "but if you want you can have me..." As I turn, I see that jungle vines, lianas, are growing up and twining around her arms and legs. That's right, she doesn't call herself Jade anymore, it's Liana now. The vines writhe, and the box splinters. When she speaks again, she reveals sharp vampire fangs.
