First, two things: no, this is not just a male Sana, the Bird-Maiden; and yes, I realize this is an odd doll for the song I was assigned. But "Ode to Sleep" by Twenty One Pilots turned out to be something of a trigger for me.
I've actually been so sleep deprived (chronic in college, culminating in 43 hours awake) that I began to hallucinate, and I really did hear voices and believe there were demons watching me. Needless to say, that was scary as hell and not conducive to sleep, so I wound up needing to be drugged into unconsciousness before I could recover. Therefore, this is the only thing I could feel comfortable doing with the lyrics.
The image that captivated me was setting one's soul on fire (the better to stay awake by its light), and believing one is insignificant. Like the tiny spark he holds in his hand, this is what we see of ourselves, especially on those darkest of nights. (continued in comments) |
