"I believe that as vital as his help will be to us in coercing our mother to come forward with the truth, Nimuel deserves to know just what he's assisting with... before Lady Deyandra testifies, that is," Velen says. "All right, then," Cat agrees. "Velen, do you think it's enough evidence, adding your mother's conclusions to what we've uncovered on our own, and supported by Meretris's poisoning?" Catleya frets slightly. "I don't know. To me, it seems compelling, but I'm not legal counsel."

"I sometimes wonder if we shouldn't bring my little brother into the general scheming; he'd excel at it, I think, and it would be good for his mood and confidence. However, it isn't my decision, nor is it entirely without danger." The young Cleric manages to shrug gracefully while continuing to dance. "If you think it's the right thing to do, Velen, I defer to your judgement," she answers.

"I suppose nothing is all bad," concedes Catleya. "Yet, I'm afraid it also virtually guarantees that we'll have to resort to blackmailing your mother into telling what she knows. We simply don't have the time to mentally reconstruct the crime, and eliminate people one by one as we verify their whereabouts during the murder, the way she did. Especially since the individuals involved have moved around in the intervening twenty years, and their memories of the event may not be reliable anymore."
