The man reaches up and gingerly touches the back of his scalp. He winces. "It is probable that I had one of the blackouts I've been experiencing since receiving this head wound, and lost track of time again." Jade River smiles wanly, but ruefully. "You must forgive me for not being forthcoming about this upon first meeting you, but I was already at such a disadvantage, outnumbered badly without even taking into account the fact that you have swords, while I apparently lost mine to the waves."

Jade River is very calm and reasonable, and gives no sign of recognizing the name of the Firebrand. He continues, "And it is strange that I was unaware of your vessel's arrival. I must have been up in those trees getting fresh spring water, although it does seem too long for that..."
