The thought doesn't cross Shooting Star's mind that, in bringing Syeha, she'll be adding a strong magician to the party, or that Amen is an extremely canny lad, after having spent 300 years reflecting on how he became stuck in a ring. "Although I do have an ulterior motive in asking you to assume responsibility for them," Falling Leaves admits. Estel thinks she understands. "You'd like to see your husband again?" There is always the possibility of foul weather, of course, but there's no controlling that... well, not short of extraordinarily powerful magic by a trained weather-witch. And Silver Fox's attention would be of no assistance against that, anyway. On a sudden hunch, Estel asks, "Do you know why Summer Wind is nervous?" "Yes, although I'm afraid I can't tell you, dear," Falling Leaves replies. "Yet you still advise me to take Syeha and Amen on this trip?" "Again, yes," is the woman's answer.

"I'm not sure that's such a good idea," says Estel, thinking of Summer Wind's request that her brother keep an extra-close watch on White Rose. The last thing she wants to do is to put anyone, especially anyone not yet considered adult, into unnecessary danger. Then again, when she and her husband talked it over, they really couldn't foresee that much peril occurring during the journey itself. Who would attack the Firebrand, knowing its reputation? And Shooting Star is notoriously lucky.

"Three is an awkward number," the northern woman begins. "I know it seems counter-intuitive, but you would actually have fewer problems, I believe, with a slightly bigger group where the dynamics could change and shift." Estel narrows her eyes. "What are you getting at?" she asks suspiciously. Falling Leaves laughs. "I'm not trying to make more work for you, my dear, but Amen and Syeha are currently visiting with my husband. Why not invite them along, if it is acceptable to her parents?"
