Thanks so much, Leaf!! I knew you'd really like the griffins!! And yes, my grandfather was a chemist, so Brin's potion bottles are a little reminiscent for me as well. :)

Finally, the griffins!!! Now I can totally picture Brin riding and Hawkeye flying along, that is an epic image! Brin's potion bottles remind me of my chemistry classes, that's quite some time ago XD

From there the two passed into the Twilight Realm, and Brin found her favorite griffin. Then they ate and flew, and rested and flew, and settled in for the night before flying again the next day. It became a routine, but a pleasant one, since nothing particularly disturbed them. Hawkeye had resumed his more characteristic Oakenling garb, and Brin dressed warmly for the cold upper air. During pauses, Brin spoke of her mother and daughter with pride, and Hawkeye told tales of his people.

The first stage of the trip hardly counted as travel at all, being more of a healthy bike ride north to Brin's house in order to gather her things. Hawkeye followed on the wing. Once there, she allowed him to help her pack, even her stored potions, knowing that it was important to Hawkeye that he make himself useful. "Be extra careful with the bottles that have rubber stoppers instead of cork," the Witch warned. "The red tops are quite dangerous. The black ones are worse still. Unstable."

Hawkeye seemed abashed. "It is a personal failing. I simply cannot abide having my ears covered; for an eagle, it is too much like being hooded. Also, it distorts an Oakenling's ultrasonic hearing." "I see," Brin said. The man smiled. "I haven't worn a hat since I was a baby. They tell me I fought like a demon."

"Before we leave, however, I must ask: why do you dress the way that you do?" "Ah," replied the man with golden eyes, "these clothes are lined with runes, especially the coat, so that whoever sees them should assume I am an ally, and proceed to dismiss me from their minds. In this way, I have passed virtually unnoticed many times."
