It would be open social warfare, which Catleya could not afford, being a mere businesswoman. Accordingly, the younger woman declared that she would be delighted to attend, and furthermore that she would count the nights with anticipation. "Oh, did I mention that it will be a masquerade ball?"

It is a thinly disguised summons, and furthermore, neither of her parents, due to her mother's infirmity ostensibly, have been included in the invitation. Catleya smiles as falsely as Lady Deandra and pretends to misunderstand. It is unfortunately too late to secure her services for the night of the ball; she would have no time to perfectly suit the floral arrangements to both the architecture and the nature of the event. However, she would be happy to check her schedule for future openings.
