"Then, Little Brother, you are indeed ready," pronounces the green woman. "Little Sister, do you still wish for this Fusion?" "Yes, my Lady, I do," responds the blue djinn. "Please." "In that case, hold her other hand," the Gaian directs Ji, "and don't let go, regardless of what seems to happen." The cleric lays a hand on their heads and it begins.

The formerly nervous bride ceases to fret, and deliberately takes Ji's hand. It is rare that Ifrit initiates displays of affection, especially in front of others, therefore her groom is thrilled by this simple act, and forgets all about his cerebral dissection of her personality. His heart spilling over with love, the living, breathing Ifrit is Ji's entire world for that moment, and he is satisfied to let it be so. "Good," the Gaian cleric repeats. "Very good. Have you completed your task?"

Then, suddenly it occurs to Ifrit that perhaps this is a test for her as well, a lesson in acceptance. And oddly, this doesn't make the blue fey woman angry at all, but seems very reasonable. She has always struggled against circumstances, even those beyond her control, yet she will be unable to fight the Fusion, and truly, she shouldn't want to... much... often. It will require compromise up to utter surrender at times. Whatever Ji thinks of her, or vice versa, they will deal with as one.

Together they sort through the simulated Ifrit. Often they come upon some virtue that the blue fey female does not recognize in herself, and she fears that Ji has been idealizing her, but the cleric and her mother merely nod and smile their encouragement. Still he has indeed made mistakes, and some of her worst flaws have been minimized in his mind. Ifrit begins to worry now that Ji's mental portrait of her, while it is more than accurate enough for her standards, will not meet the Gaian's.

Not long after that, Ji and an image of Ifrit reenter the oval of trees. "Was it easy, Little Brother?" inquires the Gaian. "I wanted it to be, my Lady. But no, it was not easy," Ji replies, somewhat abashed. "Good," says the green woman, including the real blue djinn in her praise. "You've both done very well. Are you ready, Little Sister, to discover exactly what your future groom thinks of you?" The mood of, not complacency, but quiet joy remains with Ifrit, and she nods her consent.
