Summer Wind maintains slightly wistfully that Shooting Star has plenty of time yet, causing the other four human women, all mothers, to look sharply at her. "Your adventures are by no means over, my sister," Smoke Cat teases her kindly. Syeha and Moon Shadow have done better than expected at their secondary mission, which, after providing supplies, was to get the Academy to take an active interest in fey-human interactions, particularly those involving the slavery of one species to another.

Then there is a general question and answer session to catch everybody up with what has been happening elsewhere. Ifrit, of course, remembers all three perspectives, and therefore has the best idea of what is truly going on. Sometimes one of the human women will notice her gazing speculatively at Ji, and she gives the impression of blushing, despite it being physically impossible for her to do so. Those absent are asked about: Estel's nonpregnancy, Syeha's and Moon Shadow's task in the city.

The difference is immediately perceptible. Ifrit looks... well, both as in healthy and as in right. She seems less vulnerable, and if anything, more in charge of herself than ever. "Yes, it is that easy," Ifrit answers the unspoken question of her group of friends. "And, for what it's worth, I am now in balance, being able to hear the voices of all my aspects together." She smiles softly. "They are not gone, not simply absorbed and amalgamated into nothingness, those Ifrits that you knew."

It is a curious reunion to watch. Almost in slow motion, Ifrit of the Heart sets aside her precious cocoa, no longer interested in it, and holds out her hands to her two other selves. The blue djinn female, all three of her, embrace and stand so close together that their foreheads touch. Deliberately, each steps forward into the same spot; there is a moment when they seem to overlap and coexist in a single location, and then there is only one whole and complete Ifrit occupying that space.
