Accordingly, Parakeet begins to gently woo Silver Fox: touches that last a little too long, bringing him his dinner, shy smiles and coy glances, but nothing too overt that might frighten him, as he still seems to have a bit of wild animal nature. Kanu, of course, frowns. But Kanu is always frowning when watching Parakeet, so that's not new and she won't worry about it. Mostly Silver Fox talks about his sister and how concerned he is for her safety. Parakeet sees that she must be sympathetic.

Parakeet can even afford to be generous and wish Summer Wind, whom she doesn't like much, luck in fighting the Queen with the vicious witches' cabal-thing. If Silver Fox's sister wins, maybe they will live there in the northern town, perhaps even in the beautiful house they went to before. This is not to say that Silver Fox's mansion in the Central Kingdom is not also very nice, but it makes her vaguely nervous to be stared at so much by the servants. Haven't they seen a pretty girl before?

Parakeet has always felt vaguely proprietary regarding Silver Fox, although she does not know why, but now that he's a young man rather than a statue or a furry creature, he's really much more interesting. She still wants to be an entertainer, but only if that is the best option available to her. Parakeet's true desire, of course, is to become a princess.
