No wonder Smoke Cat has a kick ass and take names mind set. It looks like she came by it honest. (Southern country slang for got it through the family--either nature or nurture. In some cases, it only means that the trait was passed genetically--e.g. blonde hair.)

Jonas's attack on Morning Cloak seems to have broken enough of the enchantment still holding Kanu inert, so that before the sorcerer, who has been plucking arrows from himself and crying from his good eye as though making an offering of his pain would pacify a spirit, can think of finishing the job of incinerating Jonas, Kanu's sword thrust from the back enters, although does not go completely through, the heart. This, of course, makes Kanu the next target of Silver Dagger's lightning spell.

A soft warm breeze blows between the two men, intercepting the blast of flame and dissipating it as sparkling fireworks high up against the domed ceiling. "I'm afraid I can't do much more than that on the physical plane, my darling daughter," says Bronze Mirror for Smoke Cat Watching's ears alone, "since this... man... only wronged me. But keep fighting; I'm so proud of you! And another is coming..." Then the sense of a ghost in the room subsided so that only the shaman could perceive it.

The two swordsmen by the door have been gradually throwing off the confusion to the extent that now they can move under their own volition, but lack any kind of motivation that permeates their lassitude. Mourning Cloak's words, however, invigorate Jonas, and he says in a distant and detached manner, "No one talks that way to my wife!" while methodically drawing his sword across Silver Dagger's throat and severing his windpipe. The sorcerer gurgles hideously, and turns to reduce Jonas to ashes.
