| For @NightOwl's contest. Ruth is the protagonist of The Book of Ruth in The Hebrew Bible. Ruth was a Moabitess who married into the Hebrew family of Elimelech and Naomi, whom she met when when she left Bethlehem due to a famine. Naomi decided to go back to Bethlehem and Ruth went with her. She went to work in the fields where she met Boaz. She forced him to declare his intentions of marrying her and so they did. They later had a son named Obed. The final chapter of the book explains how Ruth becomes the great-grandmother of King David, Boaz begot Obed, Obed begot Jesse and Jesse begot David. She then must be an ancestor of Joseph, husband of Mary and would-be legal father of Jesus and is one of the five biblical women mentioned in the genealogy of Mathew I. |
