@Inanna Well said. With the Southern Lights story I've tried to make it feel as real as possible. The Arctic language is probably easier to pronounce for an English speaker, but with neither of those languages did I create them with the intention that they were supposed to be super easy for whatever American audience I get, they were created to sound like authentic languages.
@Niobesnuppa > I completely agree with you. Way too many fantasy stories have been "built" to cater to English speakers. I don't really mind stories being written in English (since unfortunately it's the universal common language) but I don't care for stories, characters and places named to sound familiar to English speakers. If this truly is a multicultural and global society, there shouldn't be any problems with foreign names! :)
@Aerina I don't really care, to be honest. Chances are this story will just be in Norwegian anyway. I'm not gonna change the Magian language I've created just because some English-speakers would find it difficult to pronounce.
That'll be confusing, as many English speakers can't get that German CH right. I know this from a lifelong struggle with people pronouncing and spelling my IRL last name.
