Kage reached down into his bag, like magic he drew out a small, red and delicately wrapped round box. "Is it...for me?" Lin couldn't believe her eyes...when was the last time she received any gift? "Ye...yes, just wish you a merry christmas..." He gave her a bright smile. How could she say no this time? Lin carefully picked up the little box from his hand. "Thank you..." she murmured then raised her voice at Kage's back, "Dr.Hebime...I...I'll keep an eye on that book you want."

Coldness was never the nature of the shopkeeper, but at the moment of her rejection, she sounded just like this season, wintry. "What a shame..." the comer seemed relieved for a second but what took over later was a deep, genuine disappointment. "Anyway...Merry Christmas...Miss Ye."

Kage looked away, his voice trailed off, the last few words were light as a whisper. For one moment Lin was somehow amused. Where was that confident Dr.Hebime she met at the Shimizuhara college? Where was that erudite Hebime Sensei when he was giving a lecture? For now, she only saw before her a shy young man. Lin almost said yes but something stumbled her...maybe it was the lack of blush on his cheeks? He was a cold-blooded reptile after all. Maybe it was his cold piercing eyes?

Lin's smile faded as she took a step back distrustfully. "Good afternoon, Dr.Hebime, how can I help you?" The comer sighed, seemingly helplessly. "Nothing special, Miss Ye, I...just...drop by on my way home..." He hesitated, cleared his throat then raised his volume. I'm...just wondering, do you have other plans on the Christmas Eve...if not, would you...may I...I mean since I'm going to spend the holiday on my own, is there any chance you'd like to go out for dinner...with me?"
