| This is my first entry for @Mytherva's #ColourThemeDetail2 contest! My set of themes was turquoise, mythology, and bracelets. The first mythological figure that came to mind was Hera, who I believe is an under-rated and misunderstood goddess. This is a highly stylized and non-traditional version of her, but I wanted to include the turquoise through one of her sacred animals: the peacock. After learning that Hera may have had her origins in pre-Greek art and that she was only tacked on as Zeus's husband at a later time, I have an even greater appreciation for her than before. As for the title I gave this doll, Hera's Roman name is Juno and she is frequently described as cow-eyed in the Iliad and other texts. I never understood that. And remember the doll I made a while ago of Idun? Well, Hera is joining her as the second member of my goddess series. ~Gwenn |
