Therefore, other Witches were not invited to Sofaya's mountain, and definitely not permitted to enter her home. As for anyone or anything else magical, it was even less welcome. Hence, when the companions reached a certain height where there was a flat resting place, an alarm went off in Sofaya's house that was loud enough for her to hear. After all, there were no neighbors to bother, and she wouldn't have cared, anyway. At the same time, a sign materialized in front of them: GO AWAY! it read.

Sofaya, a wary and solitary person by nature, had learned caution bordering on paranoia during the Scourge, and had never seen any reason to change her habits in all the centuries since then. She had become, not trusting, yet at least tolerant of the few humans on what she considered to be her island. They were an inconvenience, and a nuisance, but perhaps a necessary evil. However, the dark Witch had long since ceased to owe more than token allegiance to Ankanas. Her one loyalty was to herself.

The ancient flights of stairs where the cliffs were too vertical for even a steep path were, for the most part, sunny and warm, although there were occasional overhangs and trees greening up everywhere roots could find a toehold. It was a tiring ascent; it was, however, much less tiresome than actually meeting Sofaya turned out to be. Just because a Witch is going blind from glaucoma and getting deaf does not mean that she won't have wards up to alert her to the presence of magical trespassers.

Their cover story was simple. Draensil and Elora were relatives of Sofaya's who had business with her. Conveniently, this was figuratively true in that all three of them were Nemesis Sisters. Marea and Karako were friends of Draensil's who had brought their boyfriends to this secret hideaway in Greece for a mini-vacation. It would doubtless be remarked upon when they left too soon... hopefully with the litella or news of it... but they could always say one of them had gotten sick, or something.

It certainly wasn't for her pleasant personality; she was as short tempered and cranky as a cat whose tail you'd just stepped on. Marea and the team heard plenty of tales of Sofaya's disagreeable demeanor on the ferry from the next biggest island, the only means of reaching Prasinos that didn't involve opening a portal half way up the mountain, in full view of anyone out to sea who happened to look that way. So, in order to arrive moderately inconspicuously, they took the slightly slower route.
