The Gaian reaches out and hits Imp in the forehead with the heel of her hand. He screams as though on fire, collapses twitching, and finally lies still. "Regrettable," says the green woman with a touch of weariness. "There are always some who must disturb the Sanctity of my Holy Grove, though it is a Haven for all those who come Sincerely and in Peace." "My Lady," Ifrit finds the nerve to ask, "what did you do to him?" "You don't truly need to know, Little Sister," replies the Gaian cleric.

"Go in Harmony, Little Brother," the Gaian tells Ji, inclining her head in benediction. This particular Gaian is also a fairy cleric, denoted by the golden circles of service she voluntarily wore. "Imp," she calls to the panting, sweating, bleeding little red man, "you upset my sense of Balance yet again by your presence. This is unacceptable." The miserable male fey's yellow eyes are bulging from his head, but he doesn't dare speak. "What penalty shall I give you, Imp? What do you fear?"

"I knew it was dangerous for Imp to show himself in this land," says Ifrit smugly. "He shouldn't have been so flamboyant in the use of his magic. You're about to see why. Watch, Amen; this should be interesting." The blue boy didn't have to be told to look, of course, as no one in the entire camp could tear their eyes away from the scene unfolding in front of them. Ji, the only member of the companions close to the Gaian, backed away from Imp, bowing low before the green skinned fey woman.

Amen the semi-free djinn, as he is still technically enslaved to the ring although liberated from the blue gem, is a young fey and has therefore never seen a Gaian. She is instantly recognizable, however. No other species of fairy creature travels with such a sense, and partial materialization, of the forest primeval at her back. There were only perhaps a dozen of her kind in the world, but the area from the oases in the desert through the southern jungle, is this one's territory, and home.

Ji paces, and circles, and dances away until he is facing south, looking out above Imp's head. However, he does not have much chance to study the horizon before he must defend himself again. At the camp, Ifrit has returned bearing the bottle with the hole in its side. This will not cage her mother very long, but it will do for the time being; her mortal friends provide a suitable cork for the cut opening, and Zephyr is forced inside. Amen is treating Ifrit's injuries when she shouts, "Look!"
