Her eyes widen thoughtfully. Perhaps it is a real genie bottle after all and the young girl has either expired, or found some way to destroy herself. In that case, Zephyr has no time to lose in taking possession of the second Ifrit. However, she must be sure, and the death of a fey leaves unmistakable signs. She must see what's inside that bottle that still can't be opened! Yet there is always a way to be found for ingenious persons; diamonds cut glass, and she wears one on her finger.

Zephyr's inspection of the clear glass bottle, however, yields the same conclusion: it is empty. And the only individual who could have tampered with it is the one who ostensibly secured her daughter within it, the one who gave her the bottle. The feckless male has betrayed her! This is clearly a decoy bottle meant to pacify her while he steals the real Ifrit, thus avoiding having to pay Zephyr for the girl's delivery. Furious, she dashes the bottle to the ground. It doesn't break, though.

"Fool! Idiot!" Zephyr berates him. "I will verify this personally!" Thinking quickly, the purple fey female returns to Song the Wolf Calling and Ifrit. "My apologies. It seems that my slave has made a grievous error and mislaid the correct bottle," she lies. "I will go and retrieve the proper one myself. You must excuse me for a moment." Her large grey eyes are as dewy and innocent looking as always, yet the abrupt manner in which she turns on her heel and strides off denotes her ire.

"What," she nearly snarls, "about the bottle?" "It was most wise of you to keep checking it," Amen says, choosing his words with extreme care, "for, as I watched, the image of the girl disappeared and was gone." "She's not in there? She has to be inside that bottle! There's no way she could have escaped!" "No, Mistress," the djinn lad confirms miserably. "The seal put on the stopper by your visitor remains intact; I took the liberty of testing that. Then I rushed to report the incident."
