"Then all you should have to do is hold Ifrit's attention," Ji's father finishes for him. "And cuddle. I strongly recommend that you cuddle," says his mother sagely. Ji is surprised to discover that he's not blushing again. "I don't think that will be a hardship," he replies. "What about when you rest?" asks Estel. "Does this facet of Ifrit need sleep as well?" "I doubt it. Hopefully you can befriend her, and keep her listening to you on the rare occasions when I go dormant," Ji advises.

How this is to be accomplished, however, escapes Ji's ordinarily nimble mind. So, once they have rejoined his parents, he broaches the matter first to Ifrit alone... who does not appear to understand anything beyond the fact that they are finally alone... and then to the company in general. "Yes, my son, that is quite a problem," his father agrees. "Fortunately, you have a love bite on your neck," his mother adds, as Ji blushes furiously and turns up his collar. "Which gives me an idea."

Even Estel is sighing wistfully. This Ifrit is more dangerous than Ji previously thought. Whether she is consciously aware of it or not, she is projecting her feelings strongly to those around her. Perhaps it only makes sense. After all, she seems unable to communicate with words; this ability could be compensation for that. However, if she is to journey for long aboard ship, this must cease, or at least be severely curtailed in range, lest Ifrit's heart make the entire crew one raw nerve.
