| Buffalo Calf Road Woman/Mutsimiuna (1844? - 1879) was a Northern Cheyenne(Tsitsistas) woman, sister of chief Comes in Sight and wife to Black Coyote. She fought with her brother and husband at the Battle of Rosebud. When Comes in Sight's horse was shot and he surrounded from soldiers and scouts she rode in full speed inmidst of them to rescue her brother. He jumped behind her on the horse, and they escaped. The Cheyenne named the battle after her ‘Where the Girl Saved Her Brother’. She also fought at Little Big Horn and it is said that she knocked Custer off his horse before he died. After surrending to the US she, her husbad and their 2 children were brought to the Southern Cheyenne Reservation. In 1878 she and her family were part of a breakout to their home in Montana. After several events they were caught on April 1879 and taken to Miles City, Montana. In May Buffalo Calf Road Woman died of diphteria. When her husband learned this he hanged himself in prison. #nativeamerican |
