| "Is that you, darling?" I followed the gentle tone of my mother's voice through the doorway outside. Even in the mild springtime weather Mother sat with a shawl wrapped around her delicate form. "Yes, Mother," I replied as I came to her side. "My dearest child," she smiled, reaching out her hands as she turned to the direction of my voice. Even though it had been years since the disease reached her eyes, my heart still hurt every time I saw the greyish sheen clouding their ocean-blue beauty. The Veiled Songstress, they had called her in her youth. Now the world was veiled to her forever.
