The task of Tashmitum and Toth was to find and obtain the Witch, Vedika, and return with her to their rendezvous point with Kemat, who would then open the hidden portal to the Hibernatorium. Strictest secrecy must be maintained, for the fae were deadly enemies who had been led to believe the Iretmoses were extinct. Fortunately, the Snake-Eyed people excelled at nothing more than concealment, either directly or through clouding and controlling the minds of mortal witnesses... tools to be used.

If Isfathotep could gain access to Meryamaat first, before Ankesnaapep, leadership of the Iretmoses would become his, although he would have to share governance with his ally the Archmage. Both the High Priest and Kemat were willing to live with this arrangement, at least for the present. There would be time enough to vie for power between themselves later, once they had it to struggle over. It all depended on the fitness of Vedika's mind to serve as an intermediary step to that of Meryamaat.

Dissention was rife regarding plans of how to proceed. There was a way to abstract the data, but it would harm Meryamaat. Ankesnaapep, her daughter, wanted to use that method to rise to power. Being a cold-blooded woman, she didn't care that it might get her mother killed in the process. However, it had also been revealed to Isfathotep the High Priest, that the mind of a Witch, specifically this Witch, could withstand the strain. He and Kemat took action promptly, therefore, without approval.

Meryamaat now contained a blueprint of sorts, as well as being the vessel through which their god, Apophis the Outer God, was made known to his High Priest. Only, since their recent awakening due to the disturbance of their Hibernatorium, the Iretmoses had not had contact with their primordial chaos god; visions had ceased to come to the High Priest. Attempts to restore the link to Meryamaat by using the minds of the human subjects who had uncovered their resting chamber had failed miserably.
