Whirling into motion herself, Marea kicked the one who'd evaded her staff, yet was now off balance, in the belly; the Yaldah toppled onto her back, breathless, her sword sliding away to the far side of the landing. The other two bared their teeth like cornered rats. Clearly, no assistance would be coming from the other side of the heavy door. Magnetic pendant glowing again, Marea gestured and the skittering sword flew up to hit one in the face. She crumpled against her partner, who also fell.

At the same time, the one on the right threw her sword at Ynarra's face, rushed forward with her bucket clutched in both hands, and fled past Gran down the steps. Marea's lodestone crystal glowed and the hastily flung sword dropped harmlessly to the floor, but the three still armed women kept the Witch too focused on defending herself and her grandmother to ponder the peculiar behavior of the Yaldah who had escaped, presumably to sound some sort of alarm... with a bucket, for no apparent reason.

Equally bizarre was the fact that the women made no attempt to warn the Traitor of imminent danger. Once again, Marea was aware of a sense of foreboding, yet she could do nothing at the moment except fight. The four Yelaadim slowly began to flank Ynarra and her granddaughter. Then, the one on the left lashed out with a blow that the young Witch barely caught on her staff and parried low, allowing the momentum to knock the Yaldah's legs out from under her... almost. She jumped back, however.

Extending her staff diagonally ahead of her grandmother, Marea sent lightning down into its tip which arced into the lunging Yaldah, stopping her heart. At the same time, the young Mistress kicked her opponent in the shins, and then caught her in the back of the head with the stout staff's backswing. The unconscious, possibly dead, Yalda tumbled down the stairs as Marea stepped aside. Grimly, the Candeliana Witches advanced on the four remaining bodyguards. Strangely, none called for help.

Marea deflected the crossbow bolt with her staff an easy meter before it could hit Ynarra, and subsequently tossed a fireball that reduced the weapon to slag. The Mistress Supreme kept walking as though nothing extraordinary had happened. Luckily, only a couple of swordswomen can come at you in the enclosed space of a stairwell at any given time, no matter how much they want to slice you to bits. Therefore two Yelaadim leaped forward, one to engage the younger Witch, and one to skewer Gran.
