This is my attempt at recreating a famous Japanese woodcut created around 1830, depicting a legendary, but historical, tsunami that swamped the Chinese fleet that was invading at the time. It is alternately known as "The Underwave off Kanagawa", "The Great Wave off Kanagawa", "The Great Wave", and just "The Wave". My version is also a tribute to that done by @Eatha, The Great Doll Off Kanagawa. #hiddendoll
How perfect! This is such an iconic painting, and Eatha's doll is so very iconic to this community! I love your version, it's beautiful and captures all the dynamic curves wonderfully!
My sincerest thanks, silver!! I didn't put in the third boat or the (kenji?) Japanese writing, since the far left kind of got cut off the doll; I wanted the focus to be Mt. Fuji.
Thank you kindly, hopebringer-jem!! I chose this maker in part for the little moon draggies, because I thought they'd be just ideal for foam. I used so many that my computer started to lag right as I was finishing up.
This is wonderful! I love how you managed to give the feel of the waves and woodblock style! The details are stunning and the sparkles as water glistens in its fall! Absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks again, ubi, and big thanks to you as well, boo!! I've always loved this series of prints featuring Mount Fuji (of which this is the most famous), and I thought, after doing a couple of desert southwest paintings, I'd do a seascape. :)
