In preparation for a pilgrimage to see the Bird Man, Catleya dresses warmly, and brings a precious gift: a pair of knives fashioned from the favored weapon of a former Chevalier. The only reasons that he has not been killed, are firstly, that he can only rarely be imposed upon to "remember" any of these incidents, as such "recollections" disturb his carefully cultivated peace. Secondly, no young killer of any skill at all has ever agreed to attempt to take out the acknowledged Master, regardless of his current age. It would be both foolish and disrespectful. Those few amateurs who tried, did not return. And lastly, he has become almost a national icon in his oddity.

The Bird Man, so named for his current habit of courting the avian populations that dwell high up in the mountains of #Noxvaelia, is reputed to know everything. This, of course, is patently false. He does, however, know almost everything that happened within his, and coincidentally Cat's, syndicate during a certain time period, as well as a great many things that occurred in other syndicates during the years in question. He even has insight into some of the government scheming that went on.
