Destructive mischief being one of Desmond's chief delights, he decided to toy with Angelica, insinuate himself into her good graces and win a place in her heart if possible, then play her for a fool for some time before revealing his true nature in as crushing a manner as he could devise. Siring a child by her exceeded his expectations, actually, but the demon had gotten caught up in the game itself until it seemed reasonable to propose marriage. He never went through with it, of course.

Okay, Desi's father's "human" alias is Desmond Drake, which means that he named his daughter after himself twice (Des... demon... a). In the underworld of Hell he is generally known as Draconus Diamante, but that may not be his true name either; no one is sure. Desi's mother was called Angelica Grey during her Earthly life. By and large she lived up to her name, being a genuinely good and saintly person, but she had a usually innocuous wild streak which was tempting for Desmond to exploit.
