Her autobiography, "On My Own Two Feet: From Losing My Legs To Learning The Dance Of Life" was published in 2014. (I highly recommend it!) Around the same time as her Olympic triumph, another major event was unfolding in her life: she had been recruited as a contestant on the 18th season of Dancing with the Stars, alongside 5-time champion Derek Hough. She never recieved a score lower than 8 from the judges, and made it all the way to the finale with Hough, finishing as runner-up.

At first, this motion was rejected; but later, the Paralympic comittee went back on their decision for unknown reasons, and snowboarding was successfully included in the 2014 Paralympics. Purdy immediately began training, entered the Paralympics, and won a bronze medal in snowboarding for the United States. She was the first female to do so, as well as the first double leg amputee.

Amy and Daniel Gale were also champions to the cause of increased resources for action sports (skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, etc.) participants with disabilities. Remembering how hard it was to find information on snowboarding with prosthetic legs, Amy wanted to reach out to others like her. She and Gale co-founded a non-profit organization called Adaptive Action Sports, and campaigned to get snowboarding included in the 2014 Sochi Paralympics.

In 2011, she did a live TED talk titled "Living Beyond Limits", where she discussed her own struggles and her beliefs about positive thinking and working beyond obstacles in life. She recalled an important question she'd asked herself shortly after her amputations: "if your life were a book and you were the author, how would you want your story to go?" She'd gone through a long period of stress about the speech, but says that she knew she'd gotten it when she saw audience members wiping tears.

She got the part, and overcame her anxieties about her first movie role to succesfully act in the film; later in life, she got a part in a comic book film alongside Samuel L. Jackson, but wound up not being able to participate due to conflicts with her insurance. In 2012, she and her longtime boyfriend (now husband) Daniel Gale ran in season 21 of the Amazing Race.

In 2005, she auditioned for a leading role in a film by Eli Steele, "What's Bugging Seth". Her character, one of the main character's potential love interests, was written as having a prosthetic leg; Amy appealed that there was no reason why the character couldn't have two, and turned out to be the only actual amputee auditioning.

In 2003, she was recruited for a role in a music video by Madonna. Even though she had no acting experience, she accepted. The video was for the song "American Life", and featured Purdy on a catwalk set in an outfit that prominently showed off her metal legs. Although the video ended up being shelved for unrelated reasons, it was a very important, empowering experience for Amy - and would not be her last venture into the world of acting.

In the years following her amputations, she successfully built up her skills and participated in multiple snowboarding competitions, even recieving a grant from the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Through all this, Amy continued her pre-amputee career as a massage therapist - but she was starting to have doubts about it. She felt like, having gotten this second chance at life and overcome her challenges, she should be doing more to help others and put her story out there.

She did, in fact, make it to her local snowboarding hill that year, within only 7 months of recieving her prosthetic legs. It was a difficult adjustment, (her first attempt ended with her literally falling out of her prosthetics mid-hill), but she didn't give up. She made it a personal goal to adjust to her prosthetic legs as much as possible, and to seek out other amputee snowboarders to talk to.
